SYNTHETIC TURF INSTALLATION IN ATLANTA
Do you want to experience the beauty of a natural lawn without doing any maintenance duties that come with it? Why not go for a synthetic turf installation in Atlanta?
With synthetic grass, you can keep a captivating property without spending too much time removing weeds, watering, and meeting the landscaping guidelines of local homeowners’ associations. You can get your dream lawn with the help of trusted professionals.
The synthetic turf installed by the Outdoor Makeovers & Living Spaces team is made with premium quality yarns with advanced UV protection to prevent discoloration and fading. Moreover, it is free from anti-microbes and toxins, making it ideal for children and pets.
Our residential turf foundation creates a stable and more durable base compared to a simple turf layer. Besides this, it requires low maintenance and always looks manicured and healthy. Plus, it does not allow water to pool or absorb animal waste, providing quick and easy cleanup.
Once your synthetic turf installation is completed, there is no need to spend money on lawn maintenance products or landscaping services, as synthetic turf always remains naturally green. Our Process
Q: How long does synthetic turf last?
A: With proper care, synthetic turf typically lasts 15–20 years for the premium products, which is what Outdoor Makeover and Living Spaces installs exclusively.
Q: Does synthetic turf get hot in the summer?
A: It can, but cooling infill and proper installation reduce heat buildup. We also install irrigation heads around it, if homeowners request it, to cool the turf during hot summers.
Q: Can synthetic turf look real?
A: The technology has gotten really good. Manufacturers use milder green nylons and built-in brown thatch to mimic the brown interior layer of real lawns. We do recommend heavier, bulkier turf measured in ounces to maintain a thicker, more upright look, and sand infill is a must.
Q: Can I put synthetic turf on dirt or an existing yard?
A: There is an arduous process to installing synthetic turf to ensure it looks good 5 to 20 years from now. You can certainly throw it anywhere for a month, but as the ground moves, the turf will follow the angulation. Professionals must build a base. The Outdoor Makeover and Living Spaces protocol states to install 4 inches of base and leveling sand to ensure the base does not move. We use Crusher Run or #57 Stone gravel depending on the application. Another step is to add a border to keep the base holding the turf. And finally, the turf is heavy, but to keep it down and prevent movement, we recommend adding antimicrobial infill at a rate of 1 lb per square foot. This adds additional weight to hold everything down and keep the turf from shifting.
Q: Can I use regular sand as infill for synthetic turf?
A: Outdoor Makeover and Living Spaces specify the use of unpolished sand, preferably coated with Microban for long-term hygiene. Regular sand does not meet any of these criteria.
Q: Can I use any synthetic turf for the backyard?
A: There are many options available for synthetic turf. Each brand has a few lines with multiple categories. It is hard for a homeowner to pick the exact turf. But here is the guideline our designer follows:
- For the majority of the main yard, use a blade height of 1.5″ to 2″ with heavier weights, such as 80 ounces per square foot. You’ll thank yourself in 10 years.
- If you have pets, the best turf will have more perforations in the base layer and a blade height of 1″ to 1.25″. The shorter blades allow quicker and less sticky cleanup in certain situations.
- For putting greens, use 0.25″ blade height unless the homeowner is a pro. Then, Outdoor Makeover and Living Spaces will build the synthetic using a different, much more advanced technology.
Q: Can I pitch golf balls on regular synthetic turf?
A: Yes.
Q: Are seams in synthetic turf normal?
A: Somewhat yes. Synthetic turf is manufactured in 15 ft widths and rolled at 100 ft long. So, depending on the space, as installers exceed this size, seams will appear. For example, a 30×30 turf area will have one seam in the middle. There will be two 15-foot strips glued together.
Q: How can I design a really cool putting green?
A: People usually go for smaller putting greens due to space limitations in their backyards. However, that does not mean the putting area should be boring. Try these subtle but necessary suggestions:
- Give it a natural slope to make it challenging.
- Add sand traps around the putting green to enhance its authenticity and look.
- Place beautiful boulders around the edge, either for sitting or to prevent balls from going to certain places.
- Surround the putting green with plantings to make it feel more natural (if there’s room).
Q: Can I plant anything in synthetic turf?
A: It is recommended not to plant directly in turf. It has an aggregate base, which is not good for plants unless it is permeable to water. Turf is like a carpet—it looks better with fewer holes.
